🌐 Preparing for the Second Trip
The Otherside Metaverse's "Second Trip" will take place tomorrow at noon ET, offering a broader range of players an opportunity to experience the metaverse for approximately 90 minutes. Below, I'll walk through some of the key details, recap the First Trip, and preview what users can expect when the Second Trip opens tomorrow.
🕵️ The Key Details
Not everyone can just hop around the Otherside. Be prepared if you want to take your turn.
Who: Otherdeeds NFT holders or those with guest codes. Each Otherdeed holder can generate one guest code.
Where: Official link to be provided by Yuga Labs on launch day (tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 25) via Second Trip blog post and Discord.
When: The Second Trip will officially start at noon ET, but the Infinity Space (the game lobby), will open at 11:30 a.m. ET. And don't be late!
The First Trip
It's been almost a year since the Otherside Metaverse hosted its "First Trip," a test-drive of the unfolding metaverse for Otherdeeds NFT holders. At the time, approximately 4,500 Otherdeed holders were able to concurrently explore Yuga Labs' creation, running around the Biogenic Swamp chasing a Koda and more. An official recap of the event can be found here, and a quick search will showcase a bevy of streams from those participating.
In large part, the event was seen as a massive success, with many showing their support on Twitter.
The Second Trip
Fast forward one year, and things have generally been quiet for the Otherside Metaverse. Sure, there have been a handful of teasers as the Otherside is in the process of "Waking Up," but until the Second Trip, nothing has been actionable for Otherdeeds holders.
Now though, Otherdeed holders will have an opportunity to explore the Otherside once more, this time with more lands, new features, and some...teammates and friends.
Teammates
Yesterday, Yuga Labs announced four notable captains that will guide users through an objective once in the Otherside.
Players will be broken up into four separate teams, led by Jimmy Wong, Brycent, Lowbellie, and Champ Medici.
No official details of the competition or objective have been released yet, but it's understood that users will need to be able to work together with their captains if they wish to win.
Win or lose, all those that participate will be eligible for the Obelisk First Trip "badge," a metadata property that will be updated at the conclusion of the event. Those who already received the piece will see no change on their Otherdeed.
Friends
In addition to teammates, holders of Otherdeeds can generate one guest code for a friend upon launch. When the Infinity Space (the lobby) opens at 11:30 a.m. ET, holders will be able to generate a one-time use, 16-digit code for a guest.
Previously, some complaints were made about the barrier to entry for the Otherside Metaverse, and while the floor price (the price to entry) has dropped dramatically, guest codes offer those without a high-priced NFT an opportunity to explore the Otherside.
Otherdeed holders can bring their friends along for the ride; all they need is a web3 wallet.
Whether your friends like it or not, we'll be recapping the event more next week.
Some final footnotes:
While the Second Trip can handle more than the 5,000 participants of the First Trip last year, holding an Otherdeed NFT does not guarantee access to the event. Yuga Labs did not specify exactly how many users will be granted access and there is no public load test prior to the start of the event. Users will be allowed entrance on a first-come, first-served basis based on their regional location.
Otherdeed NFT holders can only join once.
Be on time! No one will be allowed into the Second Trip after the event starts.
Guest codes can only be redeemed once.
Not all geographic regions are supported.
$ARB Update
Incredible demand put a damper on initial Arbitrum token claims, keeping many without their tokens for at least an hour after the expected launch.
Nevertheless, claims are on the rise and the major volatility appears to have subsided. Find the CoinGecko chart from the last 24 hours below.
There is risk in trying to rush out tokens (if you had them) in the initial volatility. Hasty actions or inexperienced users can fall prey to major slippage on DEXs, but for those few who were able to offload tokens in the $8 range, congratulations. Previous airdrops have behaved with similar initial volatility, some stability and then a spike up in the 24-48 hours after. Will $ARB join the party?
Don't fret if you have been unable to claim your tokens at this time. Eligible addresses have approximately five months to claim.
