🐭 Disney Is Back for NFTs, With Dapper
Disney is coming back for NFTs in what may be one of the most bullish headlines of the year for web3.
After previous trials on Veve and with CrypToys, Disney is partnering with Dapper Labs to drop digital pin collectibles on Flow.
The digital pins were a very specific choice, and Dapper was clearly chosen for a reason.
And some of the winners of this announcement may surprise you.
What Happened?
Disney and Dapper Labs have formed a partnership in Disney Pinnacle, a new NFT collectibles platform.
First, the basics:
Who: Disney and Dapper Labs, via Disney Pinnacle
What: Digital Pins featuring characters from Disney, Pixar, and STAR WARS™
Where: https://disneypinnacle.com/
How: Direct purchases on the app, buying packs of digital tokens (Packs), or trading with others in the app's marketplace
When: Timing is TBD, but the waitlist is open
The digital pins will include some of the most well-known characters from Disney movies, including Darth Vader, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, the Princesses and more.
A few highlights and details that stand out from this blockbuster announcement:
The idea to feature digital pins came from the success of the physical collectibles pins sold at Disney's IRL theme parks (and which have garnered some serious secondary market action on rares).
Disney Pinnacle is designed to be mobile-first, clearly a decision aimed at mass adoption.
Dapper Labs has experience in developing an NFT product that can reach mass appeal (NBA Top Shot), which was mobile-friendly.
Why It Matters
This isn't Disney's first foray into NFTs.
These digital pins may not be the mint of the year (though the lowest serials and first editions are worth a look).
But this is a strong signal that Disney is comfortable playing in the NFT space.
They are investing time and effort into building out digital IP via NFTs.
And it opens the door for other major brands who may have been on the fence (perhaps worried about mainstream reception to NFTs) to enter.
It's a huge win for Dapper and Flow, who landed the holy grail in IP with Disney.
Some potential second-degree winners may emerge here as well:
Doodles, which is building Doodles 2 on Flow (an obviously Disney-friendly IP play)
NBA Top Shot, if Flow and Dapper see an influx in market participants
Overall, we want brands to keep coming back to the table.
We don't want Mercedes to give up on web3 due to some low demand on a few NXT drops.
Same for Disney - regardless of the Veve drop specifics and reactions, it's still a big deal that they're coming back.
Hopefully they pave the way for many more to come.
💸 Parallel Looks PRIME'd for Action
It's been a big week for the Echelon Foundation and their web3 game Parallel, a darling of the web3 game sector.
On Monday, they announced that the Parallel game Open Beta will be featured in the Epic Games Store.
Then Tuesday they shared details on new gameplay emissions, with the overarching statement that players with NFT cards earn $PRIME for ranked wins and "more NFTs = more $PRIME."
A few more key details:
Base Rate: the amount of $PRIME a player earns with a full NFT deck of 40 cards will be a lever the team uses (will go up as sinks are used)
Keyframing: Different keys impact the amount of $PRIME won (i.e. Gravity Key increases earnings by a random amount)
Rank and Winstreak: Higher-ranked players earn more $PRIME
Tournaments: Players will be able to sink $PRIME to buy tournament tickets to win high-stakes prizes
The team also shared that it's looking to scale the player base as Planetfall integrates new cards, keys and sinks, and acknowledges that scaling along with new $PRIME use cases and sinks brings a pivotal moment.
Market Response
Let's just say, the market liked the news.
The $PRIME token soared 32% yesterday to $6.39 (reaching $6.66 at peak), up about 130% from local lows on Nov 3.
The Parallel Avatars surged 64% to 0.68 ETH, up over 4x from Nov 4 lows at 0.16 ETH.
This NFT and token ecosystem is booming!
And it's time to pay attention if you haven't been already...
👥 Friend Tech Trend Tracker
It was a bloody day in the FriendTech market, but once again CBB is trying to provide a bailout.
Here are some of the core Friend Tech metrics for 11/14 and their day-over-day change:
Return users: 1,661 -> 2,028 (+22%)
Daily Buy volume: $0.365 -> $0.366M (even)
Total Volume: $0.727 -> $1.3M (+78%)
TVL: $45.83M -> $44.6M (-3%)
Highest key: CBB 6.24 -> 6.24 (even)
*TVL in ETH terms 22,556 -> 22,108 ETH (-2%)
Sellers were out in force, basically outnumbering buyers 3:1 on the day, driving keys lower.
The app saw some outflows as well, as about 450 ETH left the ecosystem.
A few things happened yesterday:
Rumors that Manifold was dissatisfied with Racer's handling of the app and its power users surfaced, including some damning quotes
Nyax discovered a few new features in the code base, including Gifts and Posts (not yet implemented)
CBB announced his newest CBB Finance drop will require 2 CBB Bull keys, driving the Bull up 30% to 2.9 ETH
The Manifold situation seemed to have the biggest impact, giving those waiting to sell a reason to exit.
CBB is certainly making the most of the farm, and the market likes it, but the market doesn't like much else right now as the index keeps going down.
We will see if Racer and team have anything up their sleeves to stop the bleeding any time soon...
